Cooking, Cleaning and Summer Activities

It sometimes feels like we are waiting all year for summer, it should be the time to relax, sit in the sun or play with the kids or grandkids. Summer finally arrives and then it hits you, it actually feels like you have less time. Between swimming lessons, summer camps, weddings and family reunions it can feel like a chore just to put dinner on the table. Not to worry though, we have put together a some tricks that can help to get you through the summer and hopefully make it a little more relaxing for you.

Involve the kids

The kids are not in school anymore and so you don’t need to feel guilty about having them help you with the daily chores of running the house. Give them a list of chores for the summer, this should consist of something that they are responsible for everyday. For example:

  • Pick up their room
  • Make their bed
  • Put dirty clothes in the hamper
  • Empty dishwasher (even if it is just the kids cups, or silverwear, no knives of course)
  • Pick up all of their toys before dinner
  • Vacuum or sweep the floor
  • One a Day

    Focus on one room or one major chore a day. For me it normally has to be two rooms, the kitchen is something that needs to be cleaned daily, sometimes several times a day. Aside from the kitchen I like to focus on one room, whether it is the master bedroom or the living room. Focus on that one room and get it really nice and clean, it shouldn’t take more then an hour and then you are done! Using this method should keep the house nice and tidy as long as everyone is responsible for picking up after themselves.

    Relax

    Above all, summer should be a time to enjoy your family and relax. Take this time to work on your hobbies, to learn a new sport or grow a beautiful garden.
